break time over
During the time away I added another feature to the site. The database can now accommodate records from other locations. The first featured location: St. Louis, Missouri. On the surface, St. Louis may appear to have nothing in common with Chicago other than its location on the continent. But in a strange twist of history, St. Louis might contain more Chicago School buildings than its namesake. For a comparison, check out Chicago’s Marquette Buildings, a classic example of this architectural style.

The CTA is finally preparing for the reconstruction of its stations along the Red and Brown Lines. Demolition work has begun around the Belmont stop with the loss of a few noteworthy buildings. Further down the line at Fullerton, the CTA is still planning on destroying the Gothic styled Hayes-Healy Gymnasium. More thoughtful engineering plans could probably have spared the structure, but in this case, historical context was important to neither the engineers nor the CTA.
